A bit of history…
polyurethaneFounded on 30 June 2004, Uretech (Pty) Ltd has grown into a company dedicated to product innovation in a wide range of industries including polyurethane products.
We have been manufacturing polyurethane and insulation related products at our Vanderbijlpark factory since 2004. The factory was strategically opened next to one of our largest customers, Mittal, with whom we have had long standing supply agreements for insulation related products.
Our first polyurethane wear liner installation took place during August 2004 at a quartz mine approximately 60km from Johannesburg. The early days were particularly difficult, because of end users’ scepticism about polyurethane’s wear resistance, compared to traditional steel liners.
Our first liners were blue, with steel backing plates for stiffness. After doing numerous installations and tests with various mines, the success and feasibility of using polyurethane as a replacement for steel soon became apparent. We were however plagued by the in-flexibility of the steel backing plates. Not only was it very difficult to manufacture Uretech liners with steel backing plates, it was also very difficult to install.
During 2006, we developed a unique composite backing plate, which replaced the in-flexible steel backing plates. We successfully patented this new technology, which had tremendous benefits compared to steel backing plates.
We have a proud history of developing and commercialising new products for the industries we supply to. This has differentiated us from our competition and we are confident that this approach will stand us in good stead for many years to come.
